While there’s no shortage of coffee shops in Aarhus, few can lay claim to both a cosy atmosphere, great coffee, and affordable prices. Kjærs Kaffebar manages to tick all these boxes, and should be a preferred hangout for anyone looking for a great cup of coffee without breaking the bank.
Situated in Sønder Allé adjacent to the bus station, Kjærs Kaffebar is hardly in a café hotspot, and indeed the busy traffic outside can seem quite a detraction for both this coffee shop and neighbouring Le Pagnol (which, incidentally, is a great frugal restaurant). But once you step down into Kjærs Kaffebar, the bustle and noise seems to instantaneously disappear, and you find yourself in a lovely little hangout with plenty of charm.
If you’re craving a simple caffeine injection in the form of a filter coffee, this will set you back just 15 DKK — this is quite literally 7-Eleven pricing, and you’re getting more bang for your buck in every imaginable way here. Among espresso-based coffees, you can get a caffè latte or a cappuccino starting at 30 DKK, which remains a very competitive price point by Aarhus standards. Finally, though I haven’t tried any myself, the freshly baked pastries served at Kjærs are reputedly delicious as well.
Whether you’re looking for a cosy coffee shop to meet with your friends, or simply need a coffee to go for your bus ride, stopping by Kjærs Kaffebar is a great option. In a town of many coffee shops, this one is hard to beat.
